Release Notes for Version 5.1


Introduction

BVTech Plasmid is DNA sequence analysis and plasmid drawing software for Windows PCs.You can use it to plan your DNA cloning, draw high quality plasmid maps, analyse your DNA sequencing data, align sequences, and much more. BVTech Plasmid is easy to use, powerful, and affordable for molecular biologists at any level.

New Features in version 5.1

1.

Editable Feature Database - You can add/edit/remove features in the database so that the program will detect features you want to show on the map.

Editable links for online tools - You can add/edit/remove links of online tools so that you can access useful online tools quickly.

3.

Hot fixes - When "unique sites only" was specified, restriction sites that occur more than once in the sequence still showed on the map at least once.

New Features in version 5.0

1.

Chromatogram - The software allows to view both .ab1 and .scf chromat file formats and edit the sequence based on peaks and the aligned sequence. You can do the followings in the Chromatogram page: a) Import sequence files (ABI or SCF). b) Edit bases based on peaks or the aligned sequence. c) Assemble contigs or export or translate sequence. d) When you save the document of the plasmid map, all input chromatogram data are also saved.

Translation and Calculation - You can translate the whole plasmid sequence or the sequence of a feature. In translation, the software will search for all possible ORFs in the sequence and the complement sequence. The software can calculate Tm, MW, and GC% for a selected feature. The nearest neighbor method with empirically determined thermodynamic values is used to determine the melting temperature (Tm) of the sequence (when its length is less than 300 bp).

Multilingual Support - In this version, Unicode characters are used to store and retrieve data and therefore allows to input data and display data in various languages such as Greek, Russian, Chinese, Japaness, English... .

New Features in version 4.1

1.

Perform virtual restriction digests with one or two restriction enzymes on an input sequence, and automatically generate a restriction map. The map can show the results of digests with various enzymes on a sequence with or without inserted subclone sequence. You can input comments about the mapping or the real experiment. This information will show on the report of the map. You can load the picture of your agarose gel here so as to compare with the virtual results. You can have many experiments for one plasmid. When you save the document of the plasmid map, all data of these experiments are also saved.

Allows to insert/delete subclone into the plasmid, and updating the plasmid map correspondingly.

Sequence Feature Viewer - display features of the sequence, search oligonucleotides, and select/copy features (using Ctrl key for multiple selections and Ctrl + c key for copy or using the right-click context menu).

Sequence Align - compare the sequence with another sequence. BVTech Plasmid uses Needleman-Wunsch algorithm to align sequences.

Automatically generate map based on DNA sequence. BVTech Plasmid supports the following sequence formats: Plain sequence , EMBL, FASTA, GCG, GenBank, and IG format.

Uses a new technique (Gdi +) to draw the plasmid map (Smoothing mode).
