The Analysis of EEG for 40 Patients of Chronic Brain Schistosomiasis

Abstract: Objective: To explore the changes of electroencephalograms (EEG) of the brain schistosomiasis patients, and provide the references for the clinical diagnosis and treatment. Method: EEGs of 40 patients with brain schistosomiasis were analyzed during 1997-2004. The relationship between the changes of EEG and abnormal degree of EEG clinical type and prognosis was analyzed. Results: 77.5% of abnormal changes EEGs among 40 patients were observed. 70% in Epileptic type patients and 100% in brain tumorous type patients. The EEGs of the majority were made after the treatment. EEGs of 9 cases were made before and after treatment. EEGs of 7 patients have improved in different level, and 2 patients returned to normal after treatment. Conclusion: The EEG is valuable for the diagnosis and prognosis of brain schistosomiasis.
